APPEALS TO THE OFFICE OF STUDENT AFFAIRS & ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT OF A TEMPORARY SANCTION
I. Appeal Process
Students or receognized student organizations receiving a Notice of Temporary Sanction may request an administrative review of the temporary sanction by submitting their request in writing to the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management, Altgeld 208, or designee.
Requests for administrative review of temporary sanctions must be submitted in writing within two (2) business days of receipt of Notice of Temporary Sanction.
II. The Administrative Review
The student or recognized student organization will be given the opportunity to present and justify his/her grounds for appeal. The Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management or designee may then ask questions regarding the situation.
III. Rendering of the Decision
The Vice President for Student Affiars & Enrollment Management or designee will issue a decision in writing, normally within five (5) business days of completion of the administrative review. The decision will be to sustain, lessen (but not increase) or remove the temporary santion(s), and it will be based on the material from the review and other germane information (e.g., the student's or recognized student organization's Conduct file). There is no appeal of this decision. This time frame may be reasonably extended by the Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management or designee.
Any temporary sanction that is either upheld or modified by the Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management or designee will remain in effect until the final resolution of the Student Conduct Process.
Once issued by the Office of Community Standards & Student Conduct, the Department of Housing & Dining, or the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management, temporary sanctions may only be modified or removed by the Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management or designee.
The Office of Community Standards & Student Conduct shall have the authority to remove any temporary sanction upon final resolution of a case in which any temporary sanction(s) was issued.
